About Us

Rooted in Tradition. Driven by Connection

Founded in 1892 after the fire that destroyed Academic Hall, the Fortnightly Club began as a group of University of Missouri faculty wives who came together to support each other and the campus community. Led by Mrs. Frederick C. Hicks and with Mrs. Richard Jesse as honorary president, the club focused on fellowship, education, and the well-being of women at Mizzou. From those early days, hosting meetings in homes and Read Hall—to now, our mission remains strong: to build friendships, support higher education, and foster community among women affiliated with the University of Missouri.

A Legacy of Leadership & Impact

  • Established three scholarships for women between 1910–1927
  • Launched a Scholarship Loan Fund in 1932, now a direct scholarship supporting over 200 students of all genders
  • Contributed over $175,000 in scholarship funds through partnerships with MU’s Office of Financial Aid
  • Hosted galas, talent shows, and philanthropic events throughout the decades

Notable members throughout our history include women with names that echo across campus—Hindman, Stephens, Middlebush, Rhynsburger, Faurot, and more.
